On the 23rd of December, 2019, the local public holidays of the Provinces of the Valencian Community for 2020 were published in the DOGV (Official Gazette from the Valencian Regional Government).
The local public holidays of some of the towns of the Province of Alicante are listed below:
AGOST: 24th of January, the celebrations of the Santísima Virgen Maria de la Paz and the 18th of March, Día de la Vieja (Day of the Old Lady, when dolls made to look like ‘old ladies’ are placed in the doorways of the houses together with a sign containing socially critical but humorous texts and a prize is given for the best ‘old lady’ and the best ‘Sign’).
ALICANTE: 23rd of April, the Santa Faz pilgrimage and the 22nd of June, Midsummer’s Eve or Saint John’s Eve festivities.
ALTEA: 28th and 29th of September.
BENIDORM: 9th and 10th of November.
CASTALLA: 25th of July, the feast day of Saint James and the 2nd of September, the Moors and Christians festival.
CATRAL: 5th of February and the 12th of June.
COCENTAINA: 20th of March and the 30th of October.
CREVILLENTE: 9th of April and the 5th of October.
ELDA: 8th and 9th of September, patron saint celebrations.
ELCHE: 20th of April, the feast day of Saint Vicent and the 29th of December, the feast day of the Venida de la Virgen (with the Arrival of the Virgin Procession).
GUARDAMAR DEL SEGURA: 24th of July, the feast day of Saint James and the 7th of October, the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary.
IBI: 11th and 14th of September.
MUTXAMEL: 6th of August, the feast day of Saint El Salvador and the 9th of September, the celebrations for the local patron saint Virgen de Loreto.
NOVELDA: 20th of April, second Monday after Easter, and the 22th of July the feast day of the patron Saint Mary Magdalene.
LA NUCIA: 20th of April, the feast day of Saint Vicent, and the 17th of August, August festivities.
ONIL: 23rd of April and the 28th of November.
ORIHUELA: 17th of July the parade with the Gloriosa Enseña del Oriol (the flag of Orihuela) and the Fiestas de la Reconquista (festivities to celebrate the arrival of Christian reconquest in the 13th century), and the 8th of September, the feast day of the patron saint of the town of Orihuela Ntra. Sra. De Monserrate.
PETREL: 18th of May, the Moors and Christians celebrations and the 7th of October, the feast day of the patron saint Nuestra Señora del Remedio.
ROJALES: 29th of June the feast day of St Peter and St Paul and the 7th of October the feast day of Virgen del Rosario.
SAN ISIDRO: 20th of March and the 15th of May.
SAN JUAN DE ALICANTE: 14th and 15th of September.
SAN VICENTE DEL RASPEIG: 20th and 21st of April.
SANTA POLA: 16th of July, festivities of the patron saint of seafarers Virgen del Carmen, and the 8th of September the feast day of Virgen de Loreto.
TORREVIEJA: 20th of April, the feast day of Saint Vicente Ferrer and the 16th of July, the feast day of Virgen del Carmen.
EL VERGER: 20th of March and the 20th of April.
