Local public holidays in the province of Alicante 2020

On the 23^rd of December, 2019, the local public holidays of the Provinces of the Valencian Community for 2020 were published in the DOGV (Official Gazette from the Valencian Regional Government).

The local public holidays of some of the towns of the Province of Alicante are listed below:

AGOST: 24^th of January, the celebrations of the Santísima Virgen Maria de la Paz and the 18^th of March, Día de la Vieja (Day of the Old Lady, when dolls made to look like ‘old ladies’ are placed in the doorways of the houses together with a sign containing socially critical but humorous texts and a prize is given for the best ‘old lady’ and the best ‘Sign’).

ALICANTE: 23^rd of April, the Santa Faz pilgrimage and the 22^nd of June, Midsummer’s Eve or Saint John’s Eve festivities.

ALTEA:  28^th and 29^th of September.

BENIDORM: 9^th and 10^th of November.

CASTALLA: 25^th of July, the feast day of Saint James and the 2^nd of September, the Moors and Christians festival.

CATRAL: 5^th of February and the 12^th of June.

COCENTAINA: 20^th of March and the 30^th of October.

CREVILLENTE: 9^th of April and the 5^th of October.

ELDA: 8^th and 9^th of September, patron saint celebrations.

ELCHE: 20^th of April, the feast day of Saint Vicent and the 29^th of December, the feast day of the Venida de la Virgen (with the Arrival of the Virgin Procession).

GUARDAMAR DEL SEGURA: 24^th of July, the feast day of Saint James and the 7^th of October, the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary.

IBI: 11^th and 14^th of September.

MUTXAMEL: 6^th of August, the feast day of Saint El Salvador and the 9^th of September, the celebrations for the local patron saint Virgen de Loreto.

NOVELDA: 20^th of April, second Monday after Easter, and the 22^th of July the feast day of the patron Saint Mary Magdalene.

LA NUCIA: 20^th of April, the feast day of Saint Vicent, and the 17^th of August, August festivities.

ONIL: 23^rd of April and the 28^th of November.

ORIHUELA: 17^th of July the parade with the Gloriosa Enseña del Oriol (the flag of Orihuela) and the Fiestas de la Reconquista (festivities to celebrate the arrival of Christian reconquest in the 13^th century), and the 8^th of September, the feast day of the patron saint of the town of Orihuela Ntra. Sra. De Monserrate.

PETREL: 18^th of May, the Moors and Christians celebrations and the 7^th of October, the feast day of the patron saint Nuestra Señora del Remedio.

ROJALES: 29^th of June the feast day of St Peter and St Paul and the 7^th of October the feast day of Virgen del Rosario.

SAN ISIDRO: 20^th of March and the 15^th of May.

SAN JUAN DE ALICANTE: 14^th and 15^th of September.

SAN VICENTE DEL RASPEIG: 20^th and 21^st of April.

SANTA POLA: 16^th of July, festivities of the patron saint of seafarers Virgen del Carmen, and the 8^th of September the feast day of Virgen de Loreto.

TORREVIEJA:  20^th of April, the feast day of Saint Vicente Ferrer and the 16^th of July, the feast day of Virgen del Carmen.

EL VERGER: 20^th of March and the 20^th of April.
